running
This won't be a long post, I just wanted to document somewhere that for the first time in my life, I am feeling like exercise is not the enemy. Suddenly the horrible memories of track meets and being last in my heat and signing up for as few events as possible are distant memories as I have finally begun to see some progress in my fitness level. Sure, it's only taken 32 years to realize that even I could move my butt consistently for one hour if I put my mind to it, but at least I figured it out now. I'm no super runner, but for whatever reason I started running a bit a few months ago, got asked to join a relay, got scared out of my mind that I had actually committed to it and didn't want to look like a fool so I started to run a bit more regularly, and now...I actually LIKE running! I like that I feel better, that my posture is better, that my pants are looser, that I have improved with nearly every run, that my kids think it's normal that mommy goes for a run a couple of times a week, that 2 miles seems like nothing now, that 5 miles isn't unimaginable, and that the thought of doing a 10km run is actually somewhat exciting. I actually beamed nearly the whole leg of my relay...I saw some people cheering all the runners on and sitting on lawn chairs, and I was actually glad that I was the runner and not the person sitting...it felt so great to be a part of something that big and to be one of the ones people were cheering on. I am kicking myself now that I didn't get into any sort of sport really before. I always felt unathletic and out of breath so fast, but I've really learned that your body just needs to learn what to do. I'm starting to believe that anyone can become active and improve their level of fitness. Hey, if I can do it, ANYONE can do it.

Sam, the babysitter
My sweet Sam, reading to his sister. I missed the first part but he pretty much read the whole thing to her. And she listened too, which was the funniest thing!
